Well since most people liked my Bon Voyage Review and i Recently Got MySims for The Wii Figured i'd write a review of it ;D
Gameplay
Ok So The Basic Idea behind MySims is that you arrive at a fairly abandoned town. Theres only about 5 residents when you move. Your immediatly asked to Create a Sims after you create your Whopping 97 Block Save File (No other game that i know of has over 5 blocks needed for saving)
The CAS works really nicely, however it freezed on me the first time (i just reset and i was fine) There are plently of outfits, hairstyles, faces etc. THERE ARE NO GENDERS it is kind of funny to see a man in a skirt (LOL). It is a shame however you ONLY MAKE ONE SIM so be prepared to make the sim you plan on playing with for the rest of the game. Once you complete your Sim you Build your House and Workshop in the southeast corner of the town. I named my town "Venice" (its my animal crossing Wild world name) Once you move in you do a few things for the Mayor and Poppy the Flower Seller thats in your town. Some other initial Town Residents include: Patrick (Normal Sim), Violet (Normal Sim), Mayor Rosylen (Mayor), Poppy (Flower Seller), and The Hotel Bellhop (Meet new Residents at the hotel each morning). As you progress through the game you will meet new residents at the Hotel. The More Stars the More People want to live in your town. Each Sim has their own style they like. Each style has some Corresponding Essences. For Instance the Red Apple Essence corospnds to the "Tasty" Style of Decor. The dark Wood Essence is catagorized under "Studios". In All there are 6 Styles (Tasty, Fun, Cute, Studious, Geeky, and Scary) and about 50 or 60 essences. Some are only found in certin spots, others are common. For Instance to find the "Bacon" Essence you have to prospect in the forest and dig up a chest of bacon. The "Green Apple" Essence simply find a Tree and shake it using the B Button and shaking the Wii Remote. Essences are used for pretty much anything. certin Sims in your town may request certin essences to add to their object. For Example the Chef requires an oven with Stone and Red Apple Essences. You can add essences either by painting the object with them or simply plopping the essence on the object your constructing. Other Sims (regular sims) don't request items but you can make them items. They give hints about their style throughout the game. Some may only like "Geeky" things, others may like "Fun" Items. Overall it meshes together nicely however some essences are WAY to hard to find, it took me an hour or so just to find 3 strips of bacon. Once you get a couple of stars under your belt you will start to notice some changes. You will be able to unlock new areas (Cave with 1 star level, Forest with 2 Stars, Desert with 3 Stars etc.) and you will also be able to add more sims into your town per day. With 3 Stars for instance you can get 3 New sims per day at the Hotel. You will run out of build spots eventually however so use your build spots wisely....
Controls
The Controls of MySims are Fairly Simple and most of the time work very well. You use The Numchuck Control Stick to move your sim around, while using the D-Pad (Directional Pad) on the Wii Remote to Change the Camera. The Game is full 3D, so everything you see is in 3D. When you come to a tree with essences on it you simply hold down the B-Button while pointing at the tree with your Wii Remote. Then you shake the Wii Remote still while holding the B Button. This motion feels like your actually shaking a tree andf it is done nicely. Be warned though you will be doing it a lot. To Prospect you must find a prospecting spot and hit the A Button. Your Sim Will bring out a metal detector. you will see circles around the metal detector. The idea is to get the circles closer to red, and if you get it right by following the signal you should be able to dig up essences. it takes practice however. To fish you have to find a fishing dock near one of the ponds (there are 2 that i know of, town square, and forest) You then move your wii Remote around until its on top of bubbles, hold B and Reel the Wii Remote back. This feels suprisingly like fishing and is a very nice touch to the game.
Graphics
MySims is NOT a Graphically intense game. The Art style is like that of the Animal Crossing Games for The Nintendo Gamecube and Nintendo DS. Very Cute and makes you want to hug the characters. Its a Whimsical take on a Sims Game. A lot of color, nice lighting effects, and some crisp clean picture makes the graphics clean and simple yet nice and satisfying.
Closing Comments
If you really like the Art Style of MySims its a worthy pick-up for your Wii or DS. However if you simply want it because its a Sims Game.... well you have to like the graphics if you want to buy MySims. There really isn't a whole lot of "Sims" gameplay in MySims. The CAS screen is great and works well, the graphics leave a nice impression. but the game is too dang Repitive! All you ever do is make an object for a neighbor. There is no real reward except for the ability to make more objects. If you like building objects and building then this is a decent game. However if you really just want to play "The Sims" i really don't reccomend this game.
Scores
Gameplay:
7/10
The Controls can feel fuynky at times, and with really only a few things to do MySims suffers from not much to really do other then build.
Graphics:
9/10
Nice Cute art style that pushes the game along. This is not NExt Gen Graphics, but it is a nice spin on the typical sims graphics
Sound:
8/10
Good audio but you likely won't remember how the tune goes the next day
Presentaion:
6/10
Long Loading Times, and Huge Space to run the game are a real downer, the Menu screen is bland.
Lasting Appeal:
MySims will take you a while to finish, and it never ends (like animal crossing) But its so incredibly tedious and repetive that you will get board quickly if you don't like building
Overall Score:
7/10 (Not an average)
