Unfortunately, I do not have an install disc. The problem stems from the installer being a 16-bit program. Windows XP was able to run 16-bit programs. Windows 7, can't. And I know it's a 16-bit issue because my old desktop had some software issues, the 16-bit portion being one of those issues (I couldn't install it for that reason). I do technically have a computer that can run it, but it's in no condition to play games. There has been a couple of times where the fan on that computer refused to start... Have you Tried Windows XP Mode, not tobe confused with XP compatibility mode? You have to Download the Mode here windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/install-and-use-windows-xp-mode-in-windows-7#section_3Unlike Windows XP Compatibility Mode, Windows XP Mode Acctually Runs Windows XP inside Windows 7 as a Virtual Machine. EDIT: I just read that its for Pro and Up versions of Windows 7 :C And unfortunately, I have the entry level version that is not allowed to download it. And I tried to

I just finished grabbing the latest versions of his mods as I installed Island Paradise last night so I do depend on his mods, too.

Hi Seera, Great to see you again! It's a bummer that Windows 7 wont run The Sims 1 (i dident know that). Have you Tried a Virtual Machine? I could help you get a Windows XP one running on your machine if you have the XP install disk! Unfortunately, I do not have an install disc. The problem stems from the installer being a 16-bit program. Windows XP was able to run 16-bit programs. Windows 7, can't. I have started an apocalypse! It is a spin off of Random Branches, but it is not required to read that to get this story. It follows the rules found here. There is a lively discussion group here on Facebook. Generation One: Sion Rand Chapter 1.0Chapter 1.1Comments and all that good stuff is more than welcome!

This is one of my earliest attempts at the DITFT challenge. I started it in September 2011 based on when I started publishing chapters for it. The chapters were decently written and had some actual plot to it as opposed to being commentary. Then as it is with me, something else shiny caught my eye. Possibly a new EP, possibly Sims 2, or something entirely different. Two months later the computer's hard drive dies. And I had no external back ups of any Sims 3 save. And by then, the Rands were forgotten. Until recently. Was going through my various blogs for abandoned challenges realized that of them, the Rands were the only one that really tugged at me screaming: continue me! So I remade my founder, grabbed her spouse out of Twinbrook and used CAS's make a baby feature, recreated the kids they had already had. Then came the hard part. Figuring out why they moved. Because I couldn't leave them in Twinbrook. Too much time had gone by. Then it hit me: my plot! While I had initially strived to not do any sort of staging, my idea required staging. So I downloaded pose player, found some poses and shot some scenes. And of course the plot that came decided to morph into something bigger. So the days of not staging are over. And I'm ok with that. And now, on with the links to the story! Hello! I'm Seera. I'm 25 years old. I graduated from NCSU in 2010 with a degree in Biochemistry and a minor in Biomanufacturing. I've Simmed since the days of Sims 1 and I'm sad that Windows 7 can't install it. I got a new Simming desktop about a year and a half ago after my old computer died of hard drive failure. Luckily, I had had suspicions that the computer was going to die soon (though not of hard drive failure) so I didn't lose the Tortalls. Though, the Tortalls are on hiatus until I can catch up the story. Which is going at a snail's pace. While I have Sims 2 installed, I've been mostly on a Sims 3 kick for the past year and a half. And it's all because my new desktop can actually run the game nicely. I am still however, into writing stories to go alongside challenges, and I'll be posting my few up shortly, including the currently converted Tortall chapters

Try going through that again, step by step, slowly. Maybe you missed one of them? Those were a lot of registry entries to go through and you might have missed one or more of them.

I have a problem like yours, Katara. I inserted the disk and no autorun. I manually start the install process and nothing happens.
Turns out on my Windows XP desktop, the 16-bit system is corrupted and no longer works. Which leads me to believe that the installer for The Sims 1 is 16-bit based.
It installed just fine on my old laptop which was also Windows XP.
So it could be something like that that's caused the game to not install.

For beginners or intermediates who don't know at what population size would make it a medium city (and therefore ready for high density buildings), what are approximate numbers for it for a small, medium, and large sized city (the different sizes you can choose from to put your city).
I also agree on having no water until you get to the medium/high density buildings. It's not needed.
Also, for schools. Put the school in the middle of the neighborhood, so it's radius doesn't have to be so big (which requires less money). Also, only give it enough money to support the kids attending. If only 10 are attending, you don't need to fund it for 100 kids. Increase their budget as needed. Same with any other service that is provided per person. If you only have X population don't fund it for 10X. You can give some leeway for growth so you don't spend every other second messing with the budgets.
Don't be afraid to bulldoze some lots if you need to go from a two lane road to a 4 lane avenue.
That's all I can think of. I'm only a beginner/intermediate with the game anyways.

The maximum number of Sims + pets in one house is 10. However, no more than 8 Sims in one house and no more than 6 pets in one house.
I ran into this problem generation E.
There were 4 Sims and 2 dogs on the lot originally.
I had one male and one female dog. The female was pregnant. Daine and Chad couldn't even try for baby and I needed a third kid as per alphabet legacy rules.
Turns out Vala (the female dog) had 4 puppies, bringing the total number of Sims and pets up to 10. The maximum number.
It could be like Sims and twins and getting 9 Sims in a house before Pets.
However, they eventually gave two of the dogs away to a sibling of Daine. Bringing the total of Sims and pets down to 8. Daine and Chad were able to try for a baby again.

My first Sim was a family of four. Two adults and two toddlers. I didn't play that family for long (not to mention I had the visitor kidnap the toddler glitch).
I lost them when I switched computers. But they didn't get very far. The toddlers were kids when the switch was made.

The one on the desktop is 2.46 GB

For me, FamilyFunds doesn't always work. Especially if you have multiple families with the same last name. Which is what happens when I give spares their own house in my legacy neighborhood.
But, if I make a new family, I don't motherlode them. You can fit a family of up to 6 in a house with 20,000 on the right size lot.

Have them interact. That might cause the relationship check to occur.
